Grouse Mountain

History
Original ski
Grouse Mountain first shelter was built by hand by the Scandinavians in the 1920's. Boards removed to what became the Grouse Grind trail hiking for the company. Another company wanted to build a funicular to a private resort in the mountains, but never materialized that company. In the 1930's, a toll road was built on top through the slope of what is now running the primary ski mountain, the "Court", to reach the hostel.
The area at the bottom of the "Court" one of Vancouver's most famous ski runs is the basis original of the mountain, where the area's first lodge and rope tow were built. The base was known as the "people" to local skiers, since many cabins were built in the trees surrounding the lodge and the base of the old chairlift Court. Some of these cabins still exist and which are located below and west of the old chairlift Court. The gravel road that was built to access the database, the Old Grouse Mountain Highway, still exists and is currently used for the maintenance of the ski.
In 1949, the mountain of the first double chair lift was built, allowing the Court to ski from the top crest. Grouse Mountain asserts that this increase have been the world's first double chair lift, however, was actually the second chairlift in Vancouver after "Hollyburn" at Cypress Bowl and third in Canada after Red Mountain, the first chair in the world was in 1936 in Sun Valley. Two years later, in 1951, a longer-lift, going from a bus stop on Skyline Drive in the bottom of the mountain opened, known as the President of the village. This includes two-seater chairlift towers of wood (some of these towers and the wheels of the lift cable line are still visible on a walk after the line Chair lift the Village). Each of the chairs, for a time, equipped with a metal roof to keep dry the rain or snow skiing days during the trip to base of the old lift Court Chair.
Plane crash
On February 12, 1954, a U.S. Air Force F-86 Sabre aircraft entered the airspace Canadian State of Washington, and quickly hit the southern slopes of Grouse Mountain, near one of the old lifts, scattering debris around an area wide. The pilot, Lieutenant J. Lamar Barlow, died while strapped in his chair.
Today lodge and ski area
After a fire destroyed the original stay in the winter of 1964, the two original elevators were removed in 1970. The government of British Columbia, see the possibilities for tourism, provided the funding and permits for a new shelter to be built in the mountains, and an aerial tram ride to the top of the mountain from the valley below. The tram, known as the Blue Tram was built by the Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine and opened and inaugurated on 15 December 1966 by Prime Minister W. CA Bennett. Ten years later, the mountain was bought from original owners of the McLaughlin family in 1976. The new owner provides funds additional construction of a second antenna tram, known as red or Super Skyride tram that year.
The new ski area presidents Featured Pico and Blueberry were built in the late 1960 and early 1970, while the President additional Inferno was built in 1976. With only partial ownership of the mountain, the McLaughlin family to obtain full ownership in 1989 and proceeded to build Canada's first high definition theater, known as the Theatre in the sky, in the year 1990 by extending the existing cottage.
In Hell, cranberry and chairs began at the age peak in the mid-2000, three elevators were retired insurance issues, because, from Hell at the end of 2003 and the blueberry and the Peak of the following year. The three were replaced by the second Grouse Mountain High efficiency and speed detachable four chairs built by North American aerial lift manufacturer Leitner-Poma for the 2005 winter season. (The First was the Screaming Eagle at the Court.) The president was named the Olympic Express, instead of the recent appointment of Vancouver for 2010 Winter Games. During the Games, NBC Today coverage is broadcast live games of Grouse Mountain.
In 2008, Ortega Mountain built two new quad chairlifts, one to replace the tow cable at the bottom courtesy of the execution of Paradise and the other to replace the missing peak chair, which was closed after the Express Olympic was built in 2004. The two lifts were designed to operate at a slower rate to accommodate beginners and children.

East of the Court are several intermediate runs, with skiers and snowboarders to the Olympic Express has access to more eastern mountain experts runs, most of which come from 4,100 feet up the mountain.
