Nissan New Jersey Dealers Pleased With Renovation Loan For Nissan Plant
It seems like everyone is getting in on the efficiency revolution these days, starting with the original hybrid (the Toyota Prius) and moving into the corporate sector and general business practice. The recession and auto industry financial woes have pushed progression into the new decade, and automakers are producing fuel efficient technologies just to stay competitive in an American market that has shifted its focus onto smaller cars with better fuel economy. In the coming months, Weehawken Nissan parts dealers will be some of the first locations to offer electric engine technology, representing a huge step forward in the progression towards zero emissions.
It isn’t just consumers and the corporate sector putting the pressure on vehicle manufacturers; government organizations are getting involved in the scuffle. Fittingly, the Department of Energy has been a major player in providing companies with incentives to chase the zero-emission dream. In fact, the DOE is in the process of helping one of my favorite manufacturers (Nissan) reach their goals in terms of electric engine technology. Nissan will launch the Leaf later this year, one of the first fully electric cars of its kind. Next time you go in for a Newark Nissan oil change, you’ll likely see some big changes in the way the manufacturer services its cars.
The Department of Energy is getting into the mix yet again, offering Nissan a $1.4 billion loan to retrofit an old U.S. plant with the capability to build electric cars. While your NJ used car dealer is still a great place to visit, it’s important to look into some of the unique benefits of electric vehicles and what they will likely do for the industry. For its part, the new retrofitted facility, located in Smyrna, Tennessee, will not only be able to produce 150,000 Leaf models and lithium-ion batteries; it will also support 1,300 jobs, a nice size boost for the still-floundering job market. I would expect it will also create some nice Newark Nissan oil change jobs, too.
Where’s the money coming from? We know it is from the DOE, but more specifically, it will come from the organization’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program, a fund of $25 billion worth of loans for progressive and fuel efficient car makers. Nissan is the first foreign-owned automaker to garner a major contract from the Obama administration, following up a $6 billion loan to Ford and a $465 million loan to California-based electric vehicle brand Tesla. The extra money won’t necessarily help your NJ used car dealer, but it will do wonders for the future of the automotive industry.
According to Steve Winkelman, transportation program director at the Center for Clean Air Policy, “It may speak to the professionalism of the administration, judging proposals based on merits and not just funneling the money to the car company that you and I (and the rest of the American people) own.”
Weehawken Nissan parts dealers are excited for the dawn of the electric vehicle, but not nearly excited as the average American consumer. It’s coming.
